Hallmarks of Healthy House Churches

Below you will find four hallmarks of what we have found to be defining factors in determining if a house church, or church, is healthy.

God's Presence

Measures:
  • Sense of Awe (Matthew 7:28-29)
  • God’s manifest presence in our midst (Exodus 33:15)
  • Honest worship (John 4:21-24)
  • Active use of spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians chapters 11-13)
  • Freedom from spiritual strongholds (Luke 4:18)
  • Divine guidance and radical obedience (Acts 8:26-40)

Community

Measures:
  • Weekly praising God in unified celebration (Hebrews 10:25)
  • Members communicate outside of groups and look after personal needs (Phil 1:3-5)
  • House church provides the primary source of pastoral care, meals, and practical assistance (Acts 4:34)

Discipleship

Measures:
  • God’s gifts are encouraged and supported. People feel equipped to serve where God has called (1 Cor 12:4-6)
  • The actively seeking God’s will and His leading (Matt 6:9-13)
  • Love is used for celebrating, encouraging, rebuking, and growing within the community (1 Cor 13:4-12)
  • People are actively sharpened and growing (Romans 12:1-2)

Outreach

Measures:
  • Gatherings reach the broader community and experience growth (Acts 2:47)
  • Home churches multiply; impacting a geographic location and seeing families transformed (Matthew 28:16-20)
  • Actively seek divine appointments in situations where God has placed members (Acts 8:26-40)
